This past Friday at midnight, Solange released her album, A Seat At The Table, and two visuals from the album ("Cranes In The Sky" and "Don't Touch My Hair") soon after. And they are absolutely beautiful, and further prove Solange to be the face of carefree black girls of the world!
With this album, Solange gives us airy vocals with weighted lyricism. Touching on the concerns of black people in America; from self-care to inequality. But it wasn't just her poetic lyrics that gave me life, it was her visuals. The album artwork for A Seat At The Table features Solange rocking a press n' curl with clip barrettes throughout her tresses; a beautifully quirky photo. And then there were her two recently-released music videos! Both videos are visually pleasing to the eye, and the epitome of carefree blackness. They are filled with "insiders" that are meant for peoples of the African diaspora, and I am all for it!
And the hairstyles that she rocks in both videos are absolutely beautiful! From fully-beaded hair to finger waves, the chosen hairstyles in her music videos perfectly accentuate the versatility of black hair.
I am so happy for Solange's success with this album! It's about time that am album, such as this, gets the praise that it deserves. Because through this album and music videos, Solange reminds us to be ourselves, and to continue to grow in our journeys to self acceptance.
