So here is an insider on my life...I'm a step-mommy! I recently married the love of my life this past July, and in turn now have a bonus child! I absolutely love being a step-parent. Yes, it has it's complications, but I wouldn't trade it for the world!
Since this is a fairly new journey in my life I've decided to include you all along for the ride specifically, as it concerns my daughter's hair. She is a four-year-old bundle of energy, and has an active schedule with her time being split between two households, so protective styling has definitely been our go-to!
Aaliyah has looser corkscrew curls that is easier to detangle than my own loose natural hair, but definitely prone to frizz.
Because Aaliyah does live within two households, it's easier to keep her hair protected with braids. She absolutely loves beads, and the weight it puts on her hair. She also loves wearing her afro (so does dad), but of course it's a very unrealistic style for a four-year- old with natural hair. Instead, I usually braid the front of her hair to keep her edges in tact, and then I'l braid the remainder of her hair in medium to large plaits. After wearing the plaits for about four to five days, I'll undo the braids and allow her fro to flourish! An example of this is show in the above middle picture.
Some of my favorite products for her hair are:
Well that is the introduction of Aaliyah's natural hair journey! I hope to include more posts on style ideas for young girls with loose natural hair, as well as, product reviews so stay tuned!
