This past weekend I participated in the Black Girls With Purpose conference, and it was such a blessed time! The conference took place in New Orleans, and it was my second time being on a panel, but first time in front of a bigger crowd.
Have you ever gone on a trip and realized while you were away, that you are exactly where God needed you to be? That pretty much sums up my time in New Orleans last week.
I arrived to New Orleans a few days before the actual conference date, so I was able to witness firsthand some of the hard work BGWP creator, Brie Lightfoot-Smith had put into this event. I honestly just love the way that God moves, because the final planning of the conference had everything to do with faith. And as you all know from my last blog post, God has been challenging me heavily about my faith. The very night that I landed, I accompanied Brie to a worship service at her church, where to my surprise, consisted of mostly young adults. It was very refreshing to witness people my age worshiping freely. She notified me that her church was the location of the conference, and at that moment I knew that God was going to bless the conference.
Fast forward to Saturday, the day of the conference, and it was such a joyous time. My veteran readers already know that Vicky Logan is one of my favorite Youtubers, and I was able to meet her again, since she was the keynote speaker for the conference! She is hilarious and has such a down-to-Earth spirit.
Other panelists consisted of my dear friend Cydni Robertson, creator of of It's Her Strut, and Brittany Daniels, performer and recent Howard University graduate. Together we answered audience questions that ranged from, fulfilling your purpose, to the importance of positive relationships- we definitely dug in deep! Apart from the Q&A portion of the conference, there was a fashion show put on by Glam U, an organization in New Orleans that teaches young girls to model, and builds upon their ambitions and confidence. This was one of my favorite parts, it was so awesome to see young girls walk with so much esteem!
The keynote speakers for the conference were Vicky and Brie. And both of them definitely had a word! Vicky spoke about being mindful of the things and people you're choosing to put into your life, and how breaks from social media are oftentimes needed to reset your mind. Brie spoke about faith tests, and of her personal testimony of walking in her purpose. Collectively, they were dropping gems for fulfilling your purpose!
It's honestly hard to paraphrase all the successes of this conference, but all-in-all, it was a successful, spirit-filled time. It recharged me to continue believing God for my own purpose, and reiterated to me that my destiny is bigger then me. I love speaking into my black girls because we're often told what we can't do, or shouldn't do. But this conference did just the opposite: it told us what we can do, and that there is no limit to what God can do!
Special thanks to Brie Lightfoot-Smith for trusting me with her vision, and allowing me to partake in it. And of course I'd like to thank my husband for always supporting my dreams, and being my biggest fan!
I would also like to thank those who helped sponsor my trip- it really does take a village ya'll!
Stay blessed you all!
