Being protective of your dreams does not mean you're extra-sensitive. Don't let people fool you.You have every right to not invite people's criticism. Here are my tips to protect your dream, and a reminder to not give up on yourself!
1. Know who is and who isn't good counsel.
People will always try to insert their opinions. So when sharing your dreams, or next career move make sure it's with a reputable confidant. Someone who is where you want to be, supportive, and not harsh, but realistic. This could mean that some of your friends will be a no-go for this. I'm a firm believer that you have different friends to fulfill different things in your life. One friend can be best in your life for relationship advice, another for spiritual wellness, etc..... Keep this in mind when you're asking for advice or input in relation to your dreams.
2. But still realize that public opinion can sometimes hold you accountable.
I think I read this quote from Kanye West, and it's definitely true. Sharing your dream with others will cause you to try and attain that dream in order to save face. You don't want to tell people what you're going to do and then fail? It's embarrassing and heart breaking. Don't be ashamed of your dream, but make sure you're ready to share it when you're ready.
3. Have confidence.
You know what you want to do, and you know what you can do when you put your mind and heart into it. Believe in yourself. Because if you don't, who else will?
