Retwisting my roots with aloe vera gel

So if you're subscribed to my newsletter (which you should be) I have mentioned that I am no longer interlocking my hair, but have switched back to retwisting. There are many reasons for this, but that's for another post. In the post, I'm going to rave about my new found love for aloe vera gel!
One of the battles that I had with retwisting my new growth at the beginning of my loc journey, was that the retwist would not hold. Whether it be humidity, or after a wash, my retwists were un-twisting, making my life counterproductive. At the time, I decided to switch to using loc gels, my favorite was by Talia Wajiid, but it still wasn't cutting it for me, or at least I thought.

One thing that I wanted to try then, that I am now using is aloe vera gel. Not just because it's "natural" ingredients, but I gathered that it could provide a tight hold along with no flaking. And that's what I need for my life this time around.

So I gave aloe vera gel a try. I purchased this bottle from my local CVS. I love that it comes in a pump, it allowed me to control the amount I wanted to disperse.
Loc journey
On freshly washed hair, I sprayed my natural hair mist from Tiffany's Loc Jewel, and oiled my scalp with coconut oil. I then sectioned my hair off and began to retwist my new growth with aloe vera gel. Once retwisting a loc, I secured it with a metal hair clip, a method I did not previously use.

And my retwist came out so great! It was a little different than interlocking in the sense that my locs looked more flat, then full. However, using the clips definitely showed off the length that my hair has gained. I love using aloe vera gel thus far. I am almost two weeks since washing and my hair is still holding up. We will see where this goes!
