I had the pleasure of being featured on my best friend/Youtube vlogger, Noelle Anais' channel this past weekend and it was so much fun! Not only because I got to participate in a cute little tag video, but because I was able to do it with my best friends!
We all know how hurtful and problematic stereotypes can be, but with a light-hearted video tag we were able to discuss some harmful misconceptions about having locs and sharing our own journeys.
As you all know, I started my locs with two-strand twists with every intention of them being microlocs. My hair of course had other plans, and my locs are now more on the traditional side, which I'm completely fine with! My sister, (pictured below in the middle) also started her locs with two strand twists, but actually did achieve microlocs. And our best friend Noelle, (pictured to the right) began her locs with micro braids, allowing her to achieve sisterlock-inspired braidlocs.
Our locs turned out beautifully, but it doesn't keep us safe from the dumb misconceptions of having locs. Some of these include, dirty hair, being unemployed, super-naturalista, etc.... I'm not going to get too deep into it because I want you all to watch our video where we address all of these misconceptions!
What are some loc stereotypes you've heard? Comment below!
