My name is Mieshia McDonald, I'm from Kansas City, and I am a tech support rep.
How long have you been natural? How long have you been locked?
November 2010, locked for 13 months
Why did you decide to loc your hair?
I wanted less manipulation of my hair. I honestly wanted to be carefree with my hair and wanted to see if I could last with locs.
How did your friends/family react to you locking your hair?
They were all excited and supper supportive. My fiance was really happy, he's been wanting me to loc for a while!
What is your hair regimen? Favorite hair products?
I really don't have a strict regimen. I pretty much let my hair do what it wants. I wash once a week and I do try to get a re twist every 4 months or so. (Something I'm trying to do a better job at keeping up). I mostly just water with oils infused. I just recently started using Greg juice, a nourishing herbal leave-in hair tonic by Oyin. Still testing that out to see how it does- but so far so good!
How does your hair affect your career/lifestyle?
As of now it has no affect. My job empowers me to express myself however I desire.
What is your favorite locstyle, or protective hairstyle?
I love putting my locs in two puffs or buns. My favorite protective style is a wig. I LOVE wigs! I Purposely did my locs small so that I can wear wigs when I feel like having something different.
How do you manage to retain length/moisture?
I spray my hair everyday with water to keep my moisture. As far as length goes I have not mastered that yet lol.
What advice can you give those who are thinking about locking their hair?
Go for it! It will definitely teach you a lot about yourself. And if you decide later that it's not for you you can always take them down, or cut them off and start over. That's the great thing about hair it's flexible.
Would you like to add anything else?
Just remember to be you, be humble, be great!
