I know, January is not over, but in a few days it will be. But that doesn't mean you should give up on those new year resolutions. It's so easy to initiate something- but how quickly we forget our resolutions and continue on living our lives the same way we did the year before.
So this is a check up! What did you resolve to do in 2015? What steps are you taking to attain this resolution? I believe that consistency and accountability are key to achieving the goals that we have for ourselves. Because without consistency, your resolution can slip further away and without accountability your excuses can steal your progress.
Some of my resolutions for this year are: to begin a blog, to become more spiritually inclined, to have more faith and to actively pursue my career. Have I lost sight of this yet? Gratefully, no. And here are some things that I believe will help me keep my eyes on the prize:
As stated before, consistency can provide you with proximity to your goals. Actively pursuing something on a consistent schedule, will help you to attain your resolutions day-by-day. One day at a time.
I once heard, that public opinion will hold you accountable for your dreams. When you share your goals, or your visions with people, it's natural to do everything in your power to make it come to pass in order to save face. It's better to reach that goal, than to have to explain to people why you did not. So let people know about your resolutions! BUT, be wise about whom you share them with. Not everyones opinion is needed.
I plan to surround myself around all things positive this year. Listening to more positive music- India Arie, Jill Scott, Jhene Aiko, Nick Hakim, etc. (shameless plug on the music I listen to). As well as surrounding myself around those who are just as ambitious and encouraging as I am. Reading inspiring novels and poetry and networking with other artists. Just don't let anything kill your vibe this year!
Know your priorities. What's more important? And don't just listen to your heart. Make sure your priorities are in line with your resolutions.
Try not to lose focus. You'll have those lazy moments full of excuses and self-pity, but try and remember your goals and how far you've come!
What are some of your 2015 resolutions?
