The 2016 KC Natural Hair Expo was absolutely rejuvenating! From local vendors to enlightening discussions and classes, this year's expo presented the most positive experiences for all natural hair enthusiasts!
The expo started on Friday with a natural hair vendor fair open to the public, as well as, a FREE natural hair kids photo shoot. Then later that day there the "I Define My Natural" luncheon took place- which I had the pleasure of being a part of as a panelist.
It was such a great discussion between me and my fellow panelists, and our audience. The panel consisted of: the creator of the expo, the expo's DJ, a natural hair product entrepreneur/educator, an author, and a radio personality. We discussed everything! From protective styling to dating while wearing your hair natural. It was lit!
My takeaway from the luncheon was this: only YOU can define what natural hair means to you because it is YOUR journey. A lesson that I have learned, and am still learning throughout my own hair journey, and journey to self-acceptance.
Saturday of the expo contained the most traffic of people! There were so many attendees with so many different hairstyles! One of my favorite moments was sitting in on the Khorage Magazine's vibin' out session; a podcast-like discussion about all things natural hair and self-acceptance. It was a very empowering moment, where I was able to connect with other audience members as well as the Khorage team.
I laughed so much! And definitely vibed from the uplifting energy in the room. It was a great start to my day!
After the vibin' out session with Khorage Magazine I walked around with my sister and one of my giveaway winners (hey Shakera!) to browse the vendors. There were loc jewelry booths (which I purchased, will share later), t-shirts, skin products, hair products, and so much more! I of course had to support a number of these local #blackownedbusinesses, which I will be sharing later in a post.
Last, but certainly not least was the fashion show! It was as classy and afrocentric as any naturalista(o) would like. Stay tuned to read about my experience at the KC Natural Hair Expo fashion show.
