This is my second review of Big Chop Hair clip ins. My first review was mainly about the cost and customer service, but this review will focus solely on the hair.
I received two bundles of "18 corkscrew curl (patterns are debatable, look to first review for details). The hair was really soft and the curl pattern seemed manageable. Right away, I knew I wanted to dye this hair, to make it more summery. The color originally came in a dark brown, I bleached the hair to different shades of blonde. I left the roots dark, however.
After bleaching the hair, the curls were still very much intact, and not compromised in any way.
So all of these were very good signs. And the hair has continued to stay the same for the most part.
I've had the hair installed for about a month now. I've washed it twice, including when I dyed it. The curls have remained, but I have experienced some shedding and tangling, which is normal. However, I tried to blow dry the hair for a kinkier look, but was unsuccessful due to the tangling. I may try again, but I am a little nervous because it may cause more shedding. Also, the ends of the hair spiral, but only when product is applied. I've tried braid-outs and twist-outs but the ends of the hair will not spiral when doing these styles. The rest of the hair will come out in the intended pattern, but I always have to spray the ends down with water and product to avoid stringy ends. With that, I've come to the conclusion, that this hair is pretty much only wash & go hair.
This is why it has been nearly impossible for my hair to blend with the clip-ins. At first, I wore the clip-ins normally- parting my own hair then placing a track, repeat. This was a no-go. My hair puffed up while the weave did not and made my hair interestingly huge.
So I removed the clip-ins and flat twisted my hair straight back, but left some of my hair out in the front. This was a better option, I've been able to wear my hair all the way down and try more pin-up styles. And the hair is not as big.
I really like this hair. It's a little more maintenance than wearing a wig, but definitely just as natural, if not more natural than a wig.
My ultimate verdict? Definitely try natural hair clip ins, but I still would not recommend Big Chop Hair as the specific brand to try. It's overpriced and has unprofessional customer service, to be priced as such. But don't worry queens. I am working on a few collaborations, for more hair companies that sale natural hair clip-ins!
